Who Is Ray Marshall?

I was born and bred in Wainuiomata in the Hutt Valley being one of seven children. Upon completing my secondary school education, I applied for and was accepted as an apprentice fitter welder with Barr Browns Limited which was later absorbed into the CablePrice Corporation.

There I stayed for twenty three years, working my way up in the ranks to Service Supervisor of the Materials Handling Division in Wellington, Service Manager in the Hawkes Bay and then Branch Manager in the Hawkes Bay. I was then transferred back to the Wellington Branch as the Branch Manager which also incorporated the running of the Hawkes Bay Branch as well. It was at that time that my wife Shelley, and I, with our only child at the time Georgia, bought our home in Waikanae, where we still live today.

Qualification Associate of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand

After three years of commuting to Wellington, I was to be transferred to Palmerston North. As our family was now very settled in Waikanae, we were not keen to move, so I decided to decline the transfer and resign from my position with CablePrice. By this time our son Jay had arrived and as he was only a few months old, I decided to have a small sabbatical and spend some quality time at home with the family. It was at this time in 1999 that I decided to investigate and complete the course in real estate.

Upon becoming qualified as a real estate sales person, I wrote to Mick Robbers, who at the time was the Principal and owner of the Harcourts franchise of Mana-Kapiti-Horowhenua Realty Limited and he offered me a position with the company where I remain to this day.

Shortly after commencing my new position we were blessed with the arrival of our third child, Lucy. During my time with Harcourts, after studying at Massey University to become qualified as AREINZ, I experienced positions as Branch Manager and as a business owner, both positions that I did not entirely enjoy so resorted back to concentrating on being a sales consultant which I do thoroughly enjoy.
